Has your taste in fragrances changed over the years? Mine certainly did. I had Lalibela years ago but never repurchased this fragrance because it wasn’t 100% my cup of tea. Years later, after receiving a complimentary sample, I decided to give it a second chance and I’m so glad I did because now I absolutely love it so I want to quickly review this fragrance and share my thoughts with you.
Lalibela | Memo Paris – Review
Lalibela is a rose fragrance, but it’s not one of those typical rose perfumes. If you’re looking for a photo realistic rose fragrance that would remind you of a fresh plucked rose, then Lalibela is not for you, however, if you’re open to try a different rose fragrance sure to take your rose game to the next level, I highly encourage you to keep on reading.
This gorgeous perfume is very unique. It’s a patchouli and frankincense concoction with a distinctive “coconut” scent that surprisingly doesn’t come from a coconut note but from a flower: the coconut orchid. This is a plant which flowers smell coconutt-y but it’s NOT the typical suntan lotion / coconut scent we’re used to smell in tropical fragrances. Lalibela is anything but tropical, in fact, it performs better in cold weather.
I bought the bottle you see in the picture a while ago in Germany during a cold winter afternoon. After having an amazing cup of coffee in one of the most beautiful coffee shops I’ve ever been in downtown Munich, I stumbled upon a cozy fragrance shop and of course I had to go inside and see what they had in store for me :-).
When I saw the Memo Paris shelf, my heart started beating faster because it’s a house I absolutely love. To my surprise, one of the fragrances I spotted in the front row was Lalibela, and I urgently felt the need to try it again after so many years. I sprayed it on my wrists and let me tell you…I was SOLD, I bought it.
After I left the shop, I also left a gorgeous trail behind me and I remember I got so many compliments that only confirmed it was great that I gave Lalibela a second chance and that I’ve made a great purchase :-).
Lalibela is so feminine! It can perfectly fit under a “Femininity In a Bottle” category.
Fragrance Profile
The Notes
Coconut orchid, Jasmine absolute, Rockrose absolute, Vanilla, Tobacco absolute, Labdanum resin.
Performance
Lalibela is a pretty linear perfume which means it won’t change during the time it lasts on your skin. It’s very unique and as I said at the beginning, it doesn’t smell like anything else I’ve smelled before. It’s also very creamy, very sophisticated, and signature scent worthy.
Lasting power is about 6 hours on my skin, with a great sillage that I’d rate 9/10, and moderate projection (about an arm length or less).
Wearability
Lalibela is perfect for both formal and informal events. It’s an ultra feminine daytime type of scent, very delicate but with a strong presence.
